In French Polynesia, Tahiti is the largest and most populous island. Tahiti contains two roughly round portions centered on volcanic mountain. Tahiti is divided into two main parts, Tahiti Nui, that is big Tahiti and Tahiti Iti, small Tahiti. Tahiti Nui is on Northwestern side and Tahiti Iti is on southern side.

Tahiti was first spotted by a Spanish ship in 1606. The natives have been living on the Polynesia since 300 AD. During the journey to discover Terra Australia Incognita, which is a landmark below equator, Samuel Walls, an English sea captain sighted the island in June, 1767.

A little time after that a French navigator Lois Antoine De Bougainville landed on the opposite side of island, and claimed the island for king of France. Due to this a French-British rivalry was created. Untill the year 1847 Tahiti was ruled by French Pomare dynasty and a decade after that Tahiti was reconstructed as the overseas French territory and were later called the French Polynesia.
