Dedicated to life and works of Paul Gauguin, the Paul Gauguin Museum is a Japanese-styled art museum in Tahiti, French Polynesia. It is located at PK 51, 2 Papeari, Tahiti directly across from the Botanical Gardens.
Paul Gauguin was a leading Post-Impressionist painter. His bold experimentation with coloring led directly to the Synthetist style of modern art while his expression of the inherent meaning of the subjects in his paintings, under the influence of the cloisonnist style, paved the way to Primitivism and the return to the pastoral.
In its exhibits, French Polynesian and Marquesan cultural aspects are represented. These exhibits include original Gauguin documents, photographs, engravings, sculptures and gouaches.
There are many items for sale including reproductions of Gauguin's works, Cumming's paintings and works by Tahitian artists. The museum offers separate entrances from both the Botanical Gardens and the nearby beach park. There is just a nominal fee for entry in the museum.
